While the all-new, 2nd generation Maruti Ertiga looks quite classy, the crossover is expected to get a more in-your- face look. What this means is, expect aggressive styling on the front end with the S-Cross’ design, likely to be used  as inspiration. Well, this is exactly what this render indicates. The new Ertiga with the S-Cross front grille, swept  back headlamps, a more prominent front bumper, bumper inserts and cladding on the sides is what’s expected from  Maruti Suzuki. Slightly more ground clearance is also likely but make no mistake, the Ertiga Cross will be a butch  looking MPV for on-road use.

This is because of the fact that the new Ertiga Cross will be mechanically similar to the regular version. It’ll be front-wheel driven, and get petrol and turbocharged diesel engine options. The petrol motor is the 1.5-litre K-Series  unit with 104 PS and 138 Nm. The diesel is a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit with 89 Bhp-200 Nm. Both engines will get 6-speed manual transmissions as standard while the petrol is also expected to be offered with a 4-speed torque  converter automatic option. The new Ertiga Cross will continue to be a seven-seat cross MPV, and interiors and other  features will be borrowed from the regular model.

As for pricing, the Ertiga Cross is expected to sit above the regular version in terms of positioning, and Maruti is  expected to sell it as a more refined, car-like alternative to compact SUVs. The Ertiga Cross will get twin airbags and ABS as standard safety options. It’ll be built on the HEARTECT platform, which means that it’ll be quite light, peppy and fuel-efficient.
